Domain Details

Domain Details brings RDAP/WHOIS, DNS, SSL, TLD, renewal pricing, aftermarket, and history checks into one free research surface, then extends recurring work through browser extensions, MCP, and domain monitoring. All three exact 1200 × 805 maker images show real product UI rather than abstract decoration, but they are launch-era views from 2025; one still labels Afternic as coming soon and cannot establish current status. The central boundary is the scope of 'local-first': ordinary history stays in the browser by default, while registration lookups pass through an independent Cloudflare Worker, marketplace searches reach the operator API, DNS uses external DoH, and monitoring or sync necessarily persists server-side. PostHog, Sentry, error context, and temporary MCP IP logs add their own boundaries. Domain Details is worth discovering, but material domain, price, and certificate decisions should still be checked against registries, registrars, or certificate sources, and each surface's data path should be evaluated instead of treating local-first as fully offline.

Problem solved

Domain research often means moving among registries, WHOIS/RDAP, DNS, certificates, Wayback, registrar pricing, and several aftermarket venues. Domain Details reduces that fragmentation with a shared search, browser-local history, bulk entry points, and monitoring alerts.

Why it was selected

All three selected images are exact 1200 × 805 PNG originals still retained on the maker's Uneed launch. The first shows the WHOIS/domain search entry, the second shows eight aftermarket cards, and the third shows an RDAP result with pricing, DNS, history, SSL, and TLD sections. They expose real interface and information hierarchy rather than BitShovel-generated art, while the Afternic state and 2025 date in the images are explicitly treated as launch-era evidence. The images prove how the maker presented the product, not that lookup data, marketplace coverage, privacy, speed, or pricing were independently exercised here.

What is genuinely novel

Aggregating WHOIS, DNS, and pricing is not new, and mature monitoring and extension products already exist. The more useful combination is a free core, local history, disclosed affiliate ordering, cross-browser extensions, and keyless MCP. Its real differentiation depends on making each query's data path and source as legible as the feature itself.

Best for

Founders, domain investors, SEO practitioners, and developers who want one place to triage registration, DNS, certificate, renewal-price, and aftermarket information and will verify material facts at authoritative sources; not for direct legal or critical business decisions, fully offline lookup requirements, or bulk automation against the web service without written permission

02 / WHAT STANDS OUT

Three product decisions worth noticing

01

Express local-first as a per-operation matrix

History staying in IndexedDB does not make RDAP, DNS, marketplace, monitoring, and error tracking local. Showing input, processor, region, cache, logs, and deletion before each action makes the privacy promise operationally precise.

02

Generate prices and limits from one entitlement manifest

Dollar and euro prices, monthly and yearly billing, 25 versus 30 watch slots, and unlimited versus fair use should be generated from one effective-dated, audience-aware manifest across home, Plans, terms, and app-store copy.

03

Put provenance and ranking incentives beside results

Every registration, price, and marketplace result should show source, query time, and authority level. If an affiliate partner wins tie ordering, disclose that where the ranking happens, not only on a transparency page.

Product insight worth carrying forward

Turn 'local-first' into a per-tool data-path table: where input goes, who can see it, how long it is cached, whether errors can include it, and how it can be deleted. Generate plans, limits, and marketplace coverage from the same versioned manifest.

03 / DO NOT COPY

What not to copy

Do not summarize paths involving a Worker, external DNS, operator APIs, monitoring databases, and error tracking as 'all tools are local' or 'searches are never logged.' Privacy claims need surface-specific scope and exceptions.
Do not let home, pricing, changelog, and terms independently maintain currency, periods, watch slots, and limits, or confine affiliate commissions and tie ordering to a separate disclosure page.

04 / LIMITS & RISKS

Limits and risks

First, local and privacy claims need per-surface qualification. The Tools page says every tool runs locally and data never leaves the device, while About says searches are neither tracked nor logged. The current privacy policy, however, says registration lookups are sent in encrypted POST bodies to an independent Cloudflare Worker, marketplace searches go to api.domaindetails.com, DNS uses Cloudflare DoH with Google fallback, and watched domains plus history persist server-side. It also discloses PostHog and Sentry and allows domains in error-tracking context; extension analytics are enabled by default with an immediate opt-out. Transparency's no-IP statement likewise needs the temporary MCP IP anti-abuse exception. Second, plan and limit language still drifts: the home and Features pages say $99/year, Plans currently says €99.99/year, and the July 10 changelog also lists €9.99/month. New Alerts accounts have 25 domains while some eligible mobile subscribers retain 30. Plans calls lookups unlimited while the terms reserve fair-use limits and rate limiting; public MCP separately allows 30 lookups per minute. Third, the data is best effort. The terms disclaim accuracy and timeliness for registration, pricing, certificate, and third-party data, so material facts need source verification. Afternic wins equal-price ordering, and some registration or marketplace links earn affiliate commissions. Claims such as 40K+ monthly visitors, 30K+ searches, alert speed, and profitability are operator statements not audited here. The exact maker images are also launch-era material from 2025; the second image's Afternic 'Coming soon' state has since been replaced by 'Featured' on the current site.

Compared with alternatives

Compared with going directly to IANA, ICANN, registries, or registrars, Domain Details puts more signals in one view but is not the authoritative source. Compared with free WHOIS-only sites it adds local history, pricing, aftermarket, extensions, monitoring, and MCP. Compared with paid domain-intelligence platforms its core entry is more open, at the cost of having to understand data dependencies, fair-use limits, and commercial tiers yourself.

05 / EVIDENCE

Visual evidence

Domain Details maker product image showing the WHOIS and domain lookup home, search field, and result-type navigation
An exact 1200 × 805 original PNG still retained by the Domain Details maker on Uneed, accurately showing the launch-era search entry. 'Private, Local-first' is a maker claim whose current network paths require the privacy policy for scope.
Domain Details maker product image showing eight domain aftermarket cards and price-comparison entry points
An original product-UI image from the same maker. It labels Afternic 'Coming soon,' establishing this as a 2025 launch-era presentation. The current site now calls Afternic Featured and its primary affiliate partner, so the image is not proof of current coverage.
Domain Details maker product image showing an RDAP result, registrar, dates, nameservers, and tool sections
An exact 1200 × 805 maker original on the current Uneed launch, accurately showing the result-page structure. The producthunt.com dates and fields are a launch example, not a current BitShovel query or authoritative verification of that domain record.

What this review checked

This was a read-only review of the current Uneed launch, publisher identity, three maker originals, live home page, About, Transparency, Features, Tools, Changelog, Plans, privacy policy, terms, browser-extension page, and MCP documentation. Current public material says the free tier includes unlimited core lookups and one watched domain; new Alerts accounts cover 25 domains, four scheduled checks per day, and 90 days of history; public MCP allows 30 actual domain lookups per client per minute. We did not enter or query a domain, register, save history, add monitoring, install an extension, connect MCP, call the HTTP API, test rate limits, sync, receive alerts, buy, cancel, or request a refund. The terms prohibit automated web-service queries without permission, so no product function was exercised by script.

Latest change

Initial profile created from the current Uneed launch, publisher identity, three exact 1200 × 805 maker PNGs, live site, About, Transparency, Features, Tools, Changelog, Plans, privacy, terms, extension, and MCP documentation. No domain query, registration, install, MCP connection, API call, monitoring, sync, limit test, or payment occurred. Exact image provenance and hashes, launch-era state, local and remote data paths, analytics and error logs, price and allowance drift, affiliate ordering, and authoritative-source boundaries are recorded.
