Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra: 2nm and quad-die bet on local AI compute

M6 is Apple's first 2-nanometer chip: 12-core CPU, 12-core GPU, a dual 16-core Neural Engine, and up to 170GB/s of unified memory bandwidth, arriving in the new Mac mini. M5 Ultra uses next-generation UltraFusion to form a quad-die architecture for the first time, targeting desktop and AI workloads in the new Mac Studio.

All figures come from Apple's press release and are vendor claims, not proof from independent testing; real inference gains depend on model and memory footprint, with no third-party measurements yet.
