ChatGPT comes to Word: select a passage and keep editing

ChatGPT for Word adds a sidebar for drafting from notes, revising selected passages and adjusting structure. The official store example marks edits in the document and lists information that still needs confirmation.

For someone who regularly copies between a chat window and Word, the immediate difference is where revision happens: request a change while viewing the original, then review it in the same file.

One request to try: “Shorten this paragraph. Preserve names, numbers and dates, and add no conclusions absent from the original.” This is our suggested starting task. Compare one number and one key claim before expanding the edit.

For simple meeting action items, your current assistant may suffice. When the deliverable is a structured document that needs further revision, test whether staying inside Word makes the work easier.
