Poetry and making
From a poem to a calligraphy print: text, layout and preview
A small calligraphy project connects poems, vertical page layouts and image downloads. Its samples and two actual cached-image checks reveal creative choices, text-to-image correspondence and the limits of its published AI account.
Start with the maker’s existing Mountain Dwelling in an Autumn Dusk sample. The public entrance currently limits input to its anthology. This account checks original images, public code and two cached routes, without running remote generation.

Start with a poem you can keep as an image
In the maker’s Mountain Dwelling in an Autumn Dusk sample, the forty-character poem runs in vertical columns from right to left, with separate places for its title, author and red seal. Pale paper, fine rules, spacing and open space contribute to the appearance of a calligraphy album leaf. They turn familiar words into an image to enjoy, keep or share, suggesting other ways to present a text you care about.
Shared by dvbs2000 as the Liu Chunlin AI calligraphy project, the current page lets visitors choose among 963 anthology records, select traditional or simplified characters and ruled or plain paper, then view and download an image. Custom text is locked for ordinary visitors; the page and README direct that request to the maker. Earlier wording about arbitrary input does not establish that it is currently available.

The text and the page need different decisions
The public frontend uses explicit rules to separate title, author and body, inspect the first lines’ lengths and suggest different layouts for five- and seven-character verse. Character switching uses two prepared text versions in each anthology record; paper controls offer ruled and plain styles. The visible design contribution is to connect a text and its page arrangement through a simple interface, beyond changing a background color.
A longer poem brings another decision. The frontend calculates page capacity and warns that overflow will use the first page only. An album leaf may therefore be an excerpt, even when its title names the complete work. A short poem can suit a single print; preserving a whole text requires checking its correspondence with the pages. We did not test how the remote service truncates each longer work, so a page hint and the resulting image remain separate evidence.

Connect the selected poem, preview and download
Image delivery follows two paths. The public script maps seven exact combinations to existing JPG files; other choices send text, title and layout parameters to a remote rendering endpoint. A prepared image can show the appearance immediately, but it still needs to belong to the selected poem. A button labeled Generate does not establish that a model ran for that click.
On October 26, normal search, selection and button actions checked the traditional-character ruled and plain cache routes. The page selected Wang Jian’s New Bride, beginning with a bride entering the kitchen, but both previews and download links used existing images of Li Shangyin’s Jinse. The fixed p0025 record and cache map show the same mismatch: a connection between a work and an image, not evidence of a model hallucination. No generation backend was invoked, and these two routes do not establish that other poems are wrong.

Useful design choices and methods still to establish
The maker describes copybook analysis, variations of repeated characters, component changes and brush-like adjustments intended to reduce mechanical regularity, and offers a personal “90%” comparison. These explain an intention, not an independent score. The public repository contains no backend, font files, training implementation or identified model. It does not establish AI’s role in development, glyph preparation or each output, or show that a model learned a calligraphic style.
The project already offers a useful creative idea: combine a poem you care about, a suitable length and a page treatment to give the text another way to be seen. For the result to serve someone, its title, attribution, words, layout and image must belong together. The samples offer a starting point for appreciation. Personal messages, complete long texts or comparisons of calligraphic styles need suitable access and fuller production evidence; the AI label cannot guarantee those steps.
