Runway announces Solaris, a self-styled first "interface world model" that renders interactive UIs frame by frame
August 31 official announcement: built on an adapted Gen-4.5 video model, clicks and drags condition the next frame, and the app or website interface renders itself in real time with no code layer — the image is the app. An LLM handles reasoning while the world model renders, targeting 720p. A 250-participant user study (~7,500 pairwise judgments) preferred Solaris over a Claude Opus 5 coded interface 61%–24% on instruction-following and 71%–21% on natural behavior. Not broadly available: an early-access request form is open; no API, pricing, or license terms disclosed.

Why it is worth understanding
A new-category signal: if frame-by-frame interface generation holds, prototyping cost structure changes — interfaces are performed rather than coded. The user study directly benchmarks the coding-agent route, and with no broad availability the follow anchors are crisp: availability, API, and pricing.
Conditions and limitations
Everything comes from Runway's single-party announcement; the evals and the user study are self-reported against one comparison point (a Claude Opus 5 coded interface). The "first-of-its-kind" claim is unverified by any third party, nothing is publicly usable yet, and dual-source same-day coverage is attention, not proof of quality.
