WeChat employee addresses XiaoWei privacy claims: only an explicit request can trigger temporary analysis
Will XiaoWei scan every conversation? A public explanation from a WeChat employee describes a narrower boundary: the client temporarily reads a chosen set of messages only after the user explicitly invokes “Ask XiaoWei.”

ITHome reports that WeChat employee @客村小蒋 addressed privacy questions about XiaoWei on September 15. The assistant is a limited beta from the WeChat team, handling requests such as weather, package tracking and takeout, and can be invoked in Moments, Official Accounts, chats and Channels.
The user’s action defines the scope
The explanation treats chat context separately: after a user invokes “Ask XiaoWei,” the assistant temporarily reads the user-selected records from the WeChat client for analysis and summarisation. Its visible scope does not exceed what the user can view; deleted Moments posts do not reappear because of the assistant.
The originals are discarded after analysis
The key detail is retention: the original chat records are not saved after processing. Recommendations in Official Accounts and Channels continue to follow existing follow, browse and interaction signals. XiaoWei remains in beta, so future availability and implementation details await further WeChat information.
